Tinubu’s Digital Highway: from the Broker’s Seat

To get a bond issued today, an agent might touch four or five systems before it ever reaches the carrier. A spreadsheet to track bond numbers. A folder to keep client documents straight. An email thread with an underwriter to confirm terms. Each is a small tax on every bond an agent writes. Together, they add up to days that could have gone toward generating business.

That patchwork exists because broker and carrier systems don't talk to each other. Tinubu Surety’s Digital Highway changes that.

“Our new Digital Highway enables brokers and agents to stop having to use multiple tools to accomplish one thing,” says Rob Hoon, Platform Operations Specialist at Tinubu, who leads product for the company’s broker and agent platform. “Now they’re just in one platform.”

The Digital Highway is a direct connection between Tinubu's broker and agent system (TSBA) to its carrier system (TSC), so bond data flows from submission to issuance automatically. The spreadsheets, the folders, and most of the back-and-forth simply go away.

The agent's job doesn't change. The number of places they have to do their job does.

How a Bond Moves on the Highway

A bond that used to take the better part of a day can now be executed in a couple of minutes. No printing. No mailing. No re-keying on the carrier's end. No waiting for it to come back once cleared. The client can be taken care of while they're still on the phone.

From the agent's seat, the work looks the same. The waiting and the hand-offs are what disappear. If the carrier has the agent set up with a line of authority, there's nothing to approve manually. The submission flows to the carrier, the approval is automatic, the documents generate, and the bond is out the door. And because nothing is re-typed along the way, transcription errors simply don't happen.*

The End of Building Rate Programs

One of the quieter wins is also one of the biggest.

Today, accurate bonds depend on the agent building and maintaining what's called a program: picking a carrier, entering its rates, and configuring the calculator that runs every time a bond is executed. The work is tedious. The real challenge is what happens when it falls out of date. A carrier changes a rate. That change doesn't make it into the program. Now the agent is quoting and writing against stale numbers. Mispriced bonds, wrong commissions, and rework once someone catches it downstream.

On the Digital Highway, rates flow directly from the carrier, so the calculator is always current. When a carrier adjusts something, the change propagates on its own. The agent writes against the correct carrier data without maintaining any of it. That means getting out of the rate-administration business and back to the part of the job that grows the book.

Built From Both Sides

Connections like this have been attempted before. They tended to fail for the same reason: they asked agents to change how they work.

"We're telling the agents: don't change anything. Just continue business as usual. We'll do all the lifting," says Hoon.

That's possible because Tinubu builds and runs both sides. The broker and agent system carries the majority of U.S. agency-side bond flow, connecting hundreds of agencies to close to a thousand carriers, MGAs, and subsidiaries. The carrier system handles underwriting for many of the industry's largest carriers.

With both sides on the same infrastructure, the reconciliation work that used to land on agents is now handled by the system.

That scale also answers the question every agent will ask: Will the carriers I place business with be on the Digital Highway? Because both sides already run on Tinubu, many of them are. The Digital Highway lights up connections between systems already in place, rather than asking anyone to build something new.

The Same Relationship, Without the Friction

Surety has always been a relationship business, and for many agents the instinct to pick up the phone runs deep. The Digital Highway doesn't change that. It just moves the conversation into the same place the work is already happening.

If a carrier wants to adjust something on a bond, that feedback comes back through the interface the agent is already using. Hoon compares it to leaving a comment on a shared document: the carrier flags a change, the agent sees it in context, and they talk it through or accept it and move on.

Both sides are looking at the same bond, in the same format, at the same time. The relationship is preserved. The friction around it isn't.

Built to Keep Getting Better

Once bond data moves cleanly between broker and carrier systems, more of the routine work can be automated. The industry has long treated spreadsheets, re-keyed data, and administrative overhead as the cost of doing business. They don't have to be.

The Digital Highway is one piece of a larger effort to remove the administrative weight that keeps agents from doing what actually grows their business. Clean data between systems means fewer errors to chase, fewer tools to manage, and more time spent on work that builds relationships.

The goal isn't to change how agents work. It's to make sure the work that's left is worth doing.
